Seamless pipes are developed in measurement from 1/8 to 36” nominal. These pipe has no length ways weld in comparison with ERW pipe. In simpler words, the seamless pipe is fabricated by penetrating a round billet lay down a void seamless pipe. They are manufactured from high grade mild steel. These pipes are leakage proof , durable , resistant to corrosion and chemical.
There are two ways to fabricating a seamless pipe -
Hot Rotary Piercing Method
It is most common way of manufacturing a seamless pipe. In this process hot billets are enforced by rotating heavy rollers over a mandrel plug. The mandrel plug make the hole from one side of seamless cylindrical billets.
Extrusion Process Method
In this process, hot billets of metal are created into seamless pipe by enforce the billets by extrusion dies and above a forming mandrel.

These pipes undergoes by many finishing operations like straightening , inspection , hydro testing and imaging.These pipes can be found in these specifications – A106 , A252, A589, API 5L , API 5CT , A501 etc. But the mostly used common seamless pipe is A106B. Seamless pipes are usually used in construction , pressure piping , oil refineries and petrochemical.
Advantages of Using Seamless pipes -
- Most of the time seamless pipes become comparatively expensive than other forms of steel pipe, but it is considered more reliable.
- It shows a greater strength under loading. Since seamless pipes doesn't have weld, it isn't undergoes failures and leakage issues.
- It is preferred in commercial pipes applications like ship building pipelines , oil field equipment etc.
- They performed well in adverse conditions such as during extreme hot and cold weather.
- These pipes have uniformity of shape i.e it has round cross section which will helpful in installing pipes.
