What is Solar Water Heater?

A device which is used to store sunlight in order to heat water present in pipes which is to be uses for baths , showers etc. Solar water heater basically uses sunlight to heat water and thus allows substantial energy savings. It can possibly heat upto 50-70% of water in the kitchen and bathroom. They uses natural light to heat water. It works on the principle of thermosiphon and is intended to gives hot water without consuming high priced electricity. It is an effective technique  to produce hot water which ultimately saving expensive power and also eco-friendly.

 Solar water heater mainly consist of  -

  • A solar collector which can be installed on the roof
  • A tank used to store hot water
  • Accessories like a thermal regulator and a circulating pump


Although a back up heating system should be kept for the times when there is insufficient luminosity. This is also helpful in cut down electricity usage to heat water and minimize the washing cycles. Solar water heater absorb light by means of collector installed on the roof and transform it into heat. It proceed heat by means of circulating pump. This interchange is set off by the thermal regulator, it happens only when the collector is hotter than the water in the tank. It will thus helpful in preventing the unnecessary use of electricity by the circulating pump. It also inhibits overheating.

 The efficiency of collectors in solar water heater is at peak at midday  in summer, at that time sky is cloudless and collectors face in south direction. Similarly the efficiency of solar water heater is supreme of 35 degree to the horizon , but quality results can be attain with collectors suited vertically to a facade. At the time of  inadequate sunlight, the water heat beforehand and a back up system takes to bring the water to the required temperature. Thus it can be used to proceed hot water at a persistent temperature all the year without releasing any carbon dioxide.
